Mark Shigihara R.Ph. was a  nearly six year survivor of stage 4 cancer of the pancreas, biliary tract, ampulla, colon, liver and the lung. His cutting edge cancer therapy melded the best of conventional chemotherapy dosed in a revolutionary way with naturopathic oncology, acupuncture, and diet.  He  authored the book Living Lessons with Kim Erickson CNC, CHHC which maps his patient focused integrative therapy and inspirational journey. Living Lessons is dedicated to cancer patients and those who love them.

Mark has inspired many with his focus on faith and family.  He was a pharmacist who had been involved with pharmacy education in the realms of industry and academia for over 25 years. He was on multiple schools of pharmacy affiliate faculties and was an affiliate assistant professor with the University of Washington Pharmacy School. His specialty was evidenced based medicine review.

Gwen’s Journey – My devoted wife has kept me alive with her love and caregiving.  A sampling of her heart felt ‘Team Mark” emails are shared.

“Go ahead.”

Those two words from Mark were all I needed to hear to start the ball rolling on our long-awaited kitchen remodel.

After years of waiting and wishing, I finally placed the order for new cabinets and told our kitchen designer which countertop we wanted.

At that moment, the most pressing concern in my mind was deciding which sink and faucet to order.

Excitement was in the air!

Over the years, windows, doors, a furnace, a water heater, and a roof have been replaced in this house. Ho hum. But remodeling a room—especially a kitchen—was life-changing, and I couldn’t wait to share the kitchen transformation with Mark.

As I skipped into Mark’s home office, he was just finishing up a phone call from Dr. Saunders. I stopped in my tracks.

To this very day, the devastated yet stoic expression on Mark’s face is painfully etched into my memory.  It was a horrified, stunned look I wish to forever forget. Read more…
